The Lambton Manufacturing Innovation Centre (LMIC) at Lambton College is a hub for advanced manufacturing innovation, addressing regional diversification needs and filling critical innovation gaps. Established in 2013, LMIC supports businesses of all sizes, from startups to established manufacturing companies, by providing specialized expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and tailored support to advance products, processes, and services.
LMIC offers technical consulting, applied research, and customized training across key areas such as additive manufacturing, automation, process optimization, and digital technology adoption for manufacturing applications. By equipping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with access to advanced tools, infrastructure, and funding opportunities, the centre empowers partners to optimize their operations, validate and develop new products, and achieve their research and development objectives.
Since its inception, LMIC has facilitated over 500 research engagements, generated more than $14 million in research grant revenue, partnered with over 200 organizations, and received $2.5 million in partner cash contributions. With a dedicated team of over 40 active research staff and more than 45 research students, LMIC drives applied research and workforce development, strengthening the competitiveness of the regional and national manufacturing sectors.
Focused areas of research include automation and process optimization, additive and advanced manufacturing, circular economy initiatives, product development and validation, material testing and development, and digital technology integration for manufacturing. Through its commitment to innovation and collaboration, LMIC plays a vital role in shaping a sustainable and globally competitive advanced manufacturing sector.
